DISCUSSION The main objective of this study was to compare the pharmacokinetics and effects on plasma antioxidant activity of tea flavanols after a bolus consumption of BT, GT, or GTS. The study was conducted with the use of GT, BT, and GTS matched for their EGCG contents. GT and GTS generally contain higher amounts of EGCG than of BTs (3). However, Darjeeling and Ceylon BTs contain unusually high amounts of EGCG (16). In the current study, we used the Darjeeling Blend of BT to match the EGCG content of the GT and GTS. This tea, however, also contained a typical amount of total theaflavins to be classified as BT.
